A woman’s breasts are subject to changes as a result of several factors. Genetics, age, pregnancy and breast feeding, weight gain (or loss), hormonal fluctuations; Any or all of these can change the size and shape of the breast. These changes can be distressing and can even leave a woman feeling as though she has lost some of her femininity and youthful vitality. Breast implants can add volume and symmetry, but implant breast augmentation cannot restore the shape of sagging breasts. Breast augmentation can be performed together with a breast lift for those women who wish to both increase the volume of their breasts and restore firm, youthful, upright positioning. A woman’s body contours, as well as her overall appearance, can be improved and revitalized by combining these procedures.

How a Breast Lift with Implants Works

One of the primary reasons that breast augmentation procedures are performed in combination with a breast lift is that, by itself, breast augmentation may not correct sagging or drooping breasts. Since breast ptosis (sagging) is so often a result of diminished skin elasticity, simply increasing the breast’s volume will only lead to increased sagging as gravity exerts itself on the added weight. As a stand-alone procedure, breast augmentation can increase or balance the size of the breasts. It can restore breast volume and shape after partial or total loss. During a breast lift procedure, however, loose, excess skin is excised and the remaining skin is tightened. As a result, the breasts’ overall shape is improved, and they are lifted to a more youthful position. When breast implants and a breast lift are combined, the resulting total rejuvenation not only increases the size of the breast, but restores a firmer, perkier appearance as well.

Following your procedure, Dr. Gabriel may recommend that you wear a compression garment, likely for several weeks. The purpose of this tight-fitting garment is to help to reduce swelling by preventing fluid build up. It can also provide support and comfort while your body heals itself.

Should surgical drains be used, they will likely be removed within a few days along with any bandages. Non-dissolvable sutures may stay in place for one to two weeks. Some minor pain, bruising, and swelling are normal, as well as numbness around the areola. These should subside in several weeks, however, as the healing process progresses. While you may feel well enough to return to work in as little as a week, any strenuous activity such as exercise should still be avoided for three or four weeks, as it is important to allow your body sufficient time to heal.
